What routines are you observing at home on a daily basis? If you haven’t noticed by now, these routines have actually made your life easier. Do you know that these routines can also be beneficial to your kids when it comes to their overall childhood development? In our christian preschool in Florida where we set daily activities for our learners, we see the following benefits of routines for children:
- Routines help kids to understand time management
Time management is not really as professional as it sounds. It’s simply the discipline of being productive on a set amount of time. When they’re used to following routines, at home or in school, kids will eventually understand that some activities can be finished earlier than others. Eventually, they will learn not to disturb you about their hunger pangs as they know they will really be served with meals or snacks on time.
- Routine chores help them to be responsible
When you provide regular activities for children to do, they will develop a sense of ownership to that task. For instance, here in our preschool in Orlando, Florida, we remind kids to pick up their toys when playtime is up. These simple tasks give them a sense of independence and help them feel that they can already be trusted with these little things. You can also apply the same principle at home with chores such as fixing their bed right after waking up.
- Routine activities help develop hygiene habits
Hygiene is very important for children. Even simple tasks as brushing their teeth or combing their hair are already doable by any preschooler. You can influence them to develop these good habits by developing a routine at home. When they’re used to the schedule of brushing their teeth right after they wake up, after every meal time, and just right before bedtime, they can do this on their own without you having to remind them.
- Routine schedule gives you more time for each other
One powerful benefit of staying in a schedule is the opportunity to have more time with each other. When you’re following a schedule at home, everybody will know that by 8:00 pm, the kids are now ready for a bedtime story. They will also look forward to weekends if you’ve made it a habit to do some family time together every Sunday. As parents, you will not be bothered by missed deadlines since you have also finished your own tasks as you followed your own routine.
At Little Lords and Ladies Learning Academy, we see to it that our programs are always geared towards developing the learners’ overall well-being. For this reason, we support every parent’s initiative to establish routine activities at home. We have seen it work in the classroom. We know it will work in your home.
