Even your toddler can learn the value of sharing. It may take time, but it can be done. As a Christian Preschool in Florida, we know how important it is for children to learn to share early on. As such, we promote this practice in our center as often as possible.
You can also apply the same thing at home. Here are steps to take so that your toddler can learn to share:
- Help Take Turns
Simple practices such as give-and-take activities can shape your toddler’s understanding of what it is like to share with others.
- Praise their Positive Behavior
If toddlers don’t share, avoid forcing them to do so. Instead, cheer for them whenever they actually share. This helps them to see sharing as something rewarding.
- Talk to Your Toddler
Address their feelings whenever they try to withhold something. Talking to them helps explore their emotions and how they can feel happy if they learn how to share.
- Celebrate Small Steps
In the few times that toddlers share their toys with other children, praise them for it. This helps toddlers feel comfortable about sharing.
- Make Sharing Possible
If you’re inviting other children at home, ensure that you give them toys that can be shared. This way, your toddlers can feel that some things ought to be shared.
- Respect their Belongings
Toddlers also learn how to share when they feel that you respect their belongings. The reason they may not want to share is their fear that their items are not handled properly. Respecting their things is also a great virtue we apply as a Preschool in Orlando, Florida.
- Set an Example
Toddlers will follow your footsteps if they see you freely sharing at home. See to it that you can do sharing activities at home with other family members.
