Kids are curious creatures. They become thrilled with adventure and discovering new things. Because of which, they tend to ask questions to satisfy their perusing minds. They do not ask easy questions. They demand clear, convincing, and definite answers. Thou shall not disappoint.
No expert could fathom the imagination of a child, that is why there is no right or wrong answer to their questions. However, every response that you would make will be critically impactful. Watch your words and how you deliver the same.
Little Lords and Ladies Learning Academy has compiled questions that children usually ask their parents. Here are good answers to them:
- “Why is their child like that?”
Some people outstand, and their peculiarity triggers the playful mind of a child. If your child sees a person with disability or deformity, try to open their minds that not all enjoy the same faculties that others do. We suggest that you go direct to the point. Do not create myths just to make it easier for them to understand. Knowing the realities of the world at an earlier age will help them become mature and rational.
- “What is the F-word?”
As much as possible, do not be profane in front of your children. Refraining from casually throwing profane words is a sign of civility. Tell them that it is an expression. Do not tell them that it is inherently bad. Make them understand that words are originally harmless until the people using them intended to utilize the same for the destruction of others.
- “Why are you fighting?”
Be neutral. You don’t want your child to hate your other half if you tell them that it is not you that is in fault. If they become affected and frustrated, try to calm them down. Do not make the atmosphere suffocating for them. If you fight, keep it private.
- “Why is my thing different from the others?”
A tough question indeed. Sex has always been a sensitive issue. Children are not yet in the right mind to understand such a complex matter. In answering this question, establish that every person has differences. However, never overshadow reality. Using scientific facts will be useful.
- “Why do people die?”
Let them understand that human life is limited and unpredictable. If they feel scared, comfort them. Be their refuge. Instill in them that they should live their life to the fullest.
- “What happens after you die?”
This is a question that is scientifically impossible to answer. No records were culled to prove life after death yet. Religious beliefs will help. Balance your answer to imbue both sensitivity and reality.
