The first few years of a baby’s life may probably be the toughest. During these times, your infants are unable to speak clearly. All they do is make cooing sounds. There are also times when your babies giggle and all of a sudden, they cry. Exasperating, isn’t it?
Babies communicate in ways that are different from how we communicate. This is what we call “baby talks.” Although baby talks are hard to decode, this does not mean that you cannot do anything to make out what your little ones are trying to tell you. Stated differently, you do not need words to comprehend what your kids want you to know.
Little Lords and Ladies Learning Academy, one of the most prestigious Preschools in Orlando, Florida, enumerates some simple techniques you can use to communicate effectively with your little cherubs.
- Read your babies’ actions.
They say that actions speak louder than words. This statement is truer with babies. Even without speaking, you will be able to know what message they are trying to relay to you. You can easily identify that your baby is hungry because they will nuzzle at their mother’s breast. Also, when a ten-year-old youngster is done eating, you will know because they will start playing with the food.
- Identify your infants’ sounds.
When you hear your infants crying, that means that they need you. You have to give them a response too. If they throw some fits, maybe it is because they are hungry, or they need their diaper to be changed, or they are uncomfortable with their position. Identify what is causing it.
- Shower your babies with physical affection.
Babies want to be touched, cuddled, and crooned to by their parents. Babies are independent of their parents. They are scared to be left all alone. Showering your little angels with physical affection gives them an assurance that you will not leave them.
- Sing them a song.
Several studies have proved that babies like to listen to music even before they are still inside the womb. Talk to your baby by singing them a song. The song “You Are My Sunshine” by Johnny Cash is one of the songs many parents like singing to their little ones.
- Encourage them to talk.
There are many ways to encourage your little angels to talk. One way is by mimicking what they say. The other way is to give them a response. If they are squealing with joy, you can squeal back to them and add, “Isn’t our baby the happiest baby in the world?”
- Be patient.
Understanding without words may be frustrating, but you have to extend your patience to your little ones. Babies can absorb emotional tone and facial expressions. So, you have to avoid showing a frustrated or annoyed look.
